It’s pretty good indeed
August 12, 2007 on 6:51 pm | In Cup of Comfort | 2 CommentsBack in late 2001 when I set my goal on being a writer of books, I thought it would be really fantastic, just the greatest thing possible to see my name on the cover of a book. I thought I would feel like I had really made it, that I had something worth saying, a good story to tell.
Yesterday my copy of A Cup of Comfort for Dog Lovers arrived which includes my story Cosmic Changes. My name is not on the cover but it’s in the Table of Contents, listed with my story, and I have a short bio in list of contributors.
You know dreams sometimes have a way of not turning out to be quite as rewarding as you thought they’d be?
Well, that’s not the case here. I have to say it’s good to see my story in print. Pretty damn good.
I’ve published articles in magazines before and, of course, tons of manuals that never list the author so it’s not like I’ve never seen my work in print before. And yet, this feels like a good step towards where I want to be. Like maybe all this hard work and sacrifice might really pay off some day. It’s quite encouraging. To say the least.
As a contributor, I’m encouraged to set up book signings, readings, and interviews to encourage sales. I haven’t started to do that yet but I will just so I can get some experience at doing that. I’m thinking of this as sort of a trial run.
For when my name is on the cover.
