I love this post!

You are right. There are so many ways we can serve our country, and this is one of them. You are such a good example!

By the way, I read your post about the half-marathon, and I started thinking about your saying ("this hill doesn't know me") to myself when I run. It definitely helps!

Three cheers for you! You not only ran a great race, you wrote an absolutely marvelous description of it that really gave me the feeling of being in the race with you. Very inspiring. I'm going to think back to this entry when my body tries to think of excuses for not going out for a run this afternoon. Thanks.

This is one of the most fabulous race reports I have read in a very long time. Congrats on your race and your story!

What an inspiration to runners reading it and also for the runner you helped at the end. We have all been there before - doubting a good finish - and then someone helps us stay motivated to cross the line.

I would love for you to share your story with other runners at "Runners Lounge" if you care to. It is an online community of runners and there is a special section for inspirational stories - this would be a great addition.

Congrats again and great post!

Wow Gretchen, that is so good, I felt like I was right there with you. Only watching of course, not running! What an accomplishment.

Congratulations Gretchen! Last October I did the San Jose Rock n Roll Half Marathon with my friend Janice, we walked it and finished in 3:37. It was great fun -- all of the bands along the route really kept us motivated!
